Shaping a Better World for our Children

March is the time of the year when we as a collective not only celebrate International Women’s Day, but participate in activities throughout the month. For me, this coming month promises to be busy one with plenty of opportunities bond with my female friends, network with fellow female entrepreneurs and be a mentor for the next generation of female leaders. How will you be celebrating with your sisterhood?

I have never been so happy for March to arrive. The past four months have been pretty blah professionally as I broke up my business partnership on the startup venture that I have been building for three years. It was a plot twist to be sure! I truly believed that this business would be the one to give me financial independence. It is a blow to me as an entrepreneur and as a woman.

I feel grateful that I have spent the past five years deeply investing in my emotional and spiritual development as it has helped me emerge from the past four months feeling resilient and optimistic. What is a 4-month blip in a 20-year career that has seen me create impactful ventures and build a formidable global network? It is just that – a blip. The business will become something new and I need to figure out what the ship will look like now and how to steer it from here.

As a strong and empowered woman, I have the internal resources to overcome challenges. And living 40 to the Max means I handle myself with energy, confidence and style to the best of my ability.

When crises happen it often takes you on paths that are quite unexpected. The shock of the situation caused me to retreat into my imagination. It made me want to CREATE, and I have spent many days and night’s over the past few months furiously writing my novel 40 To The Max which launches on my birthday, 5 May. As a result,  I am ready to step into March, the month of women’s empowerment. with renewed vigour and a spring in my step. It is time to start a new chapter.

This year, International Women’s Month has a special significance for me. My daughter turned 16 in February. On the verge of adulthood, she is very aware of the challenges of being a woman in this world. Reading the news daily, wherever you are in the world, is upsetting. Abuse of women in the home, the workplace, and the halls of parliament is a scourge of daily regularity. My daughter told me that she has resigned herself to the reality that at some stage in her life she will be abused – whether that be sexually harassed or something far worse. How, as a mother can I react to this? It is horrifying. All I can do is help her build her confidence, give her tools for resilience and help her to feel empowered and strong.

As an entrepreneur and leader I can also play my part to shape a future world where love, kindness and respect are the core values that form government and business decision making, and inform all human interactions. I have promised to use only words this year that lift and inspire and come from a place of love. It is a pledge that I also welcome you to take and action in all your communication, both online and offline.

We need to emerge from this world-shifting pandemic event as better humans. As long as the kind and loving people of the world far outweigh those who use their existence for violence and hate, can we hope to shape a better future for our children.

Wishing you a safe and empowering International Women’s Month.
